Molding sander

CD2-300 molding sander

CD2’s are designed to thoroughly and uniformly finish sand and sealer sand work pieces such as moldings, trim, flooring, etc.

The QuickWood CD2 Series Molding sanders have two or more horizontal top spindles and can have two or more vertical side spindles and/or two or more horizontal bottom spindles to sand the various surfaces of the work pieces as needed.

All spindles are adjustable for different product sizes as well as abrasive wear. The top and side spindles are tilt-able for optimum sanding.

Full width pressure rollers easily adjust by hand crank to hold the work pieces firmly on the power roller conveyor and against the guide fence.

This configuration is the perfect fit molding sander for the medium to small operation, these machines have it all.

It has variable speed on the driven rollers 10-50 feet min.

It has 4 hold-down pressure rollers from the top holding the molding firmly in place while traveling though the machine.

Each spindle have variable speed to change the sanding on the molding for less sanding in sealer and primer coats to more sanding on raw wood.

These machines will remove light knife marks and prep the wood for staining and sealing without being detrimental to the profiles and contours of your work pieces.

Pre-sanding with a molding sander

The initial pre-sand is very important to the molding as consistency in the stain color comes from this pre-sand. The pre-sand is a uniform sanding of the top surface of the whole molding using pairs of counter rotating sanding spindles.

Brush sanding moldings in this way prepares the molding, not just for the staining but also for the next step, namely the sealer coat.

The top and the bottom of the molding can get the same sanding and by doing this the same uniform stain color is achieved with a QuickWood CDU2+2+2.

When the sealer coat is applied to the molding the pre-sanding with the QuickWood molding sander has gently broken the sharp edges on the molding.

This does not mean that the brush sanding distorts the profile, it only means that knife sharp edges are slightly broken to allow the stain and sealer to adhere to the edges without bleeding away and causing yellow lining on the work piece.

What inevitably happens is that a sharp edge will not be able to absorb very much stain or sealer and thereby be very weak and a possibility of the homeowner would rub threw the thin or non existent sealer coats and expose raw wood.

To make the edges as strong as possible a light break is given to the raw wood, so the stain and sealer coats adheres better on the edges.

After stain and sealer has be applied and the molding has dried the QuickWood brush sander is now ready to do sealer sanding on the molding by reversing the spindles rotation and using QuickWood’s Quick-Strip Double Sided Abrasive.

These Quick-Strip Double Sided Abrasive have the option of installing whatever grit you would like to use on the heads and changing between the two grits is as simple as flipping a switch.

The sander can be setup with 150 grit for pre sanding and 220 grit for sealer sanding.

Any grit from 60 to 600 is available for the machine.

Special sanding applications like the Rustic look (Weathered), Antique look (Distressed) or South Western look (Sandblasted) can be achieved by using steel brushes or stiff tynex brushes.

The basic CD2-300 molding sanding machine comes with 2 top heads, made with variable speed to change the aggressiveness of the sanding on the molding.
